"Beyond

After-School Programs
Implementation
Since its inception, Donna Street Community Center has been committed to expanding opportunities for youth beyond the traditional school day. The Center provides comprehensive after-school education support designed to strengthen academic achievement while nurturing creativity, leadership, and life skills.
Our core program areas include:
Academic Enrichment
Literacy Support: Improving reading comprehension, writing skills, and communication abilities through individualized and small-group instruction.
Math Skills Development: Reinforcing foundational and advanced math concepts to build confidence and academic success.
Science and Technology Education: Offering hands-on learning experiences that encourage critical thinking, digital literacy, and STEM exploration.
Financial Literacy Education: Youth receive practical instruction in budgeting, saving, responsible financial decision-making, entrepreneurship basics, and long-term financial planning, equipping them with essential tools for economic independence.
Music and Arts Enrichment: Creative expression is fostered through structured music and arts programming, promoting cultural awareness, confidence, and emotional expression.
Beyond academics, Donna Street Community Center places strong emphasis on mentorship and character development. Participants are paired with trained mentors who provide guidance, encouragement, and positive role modeling. Through these mentoring relationships, youth develop essential life skills such as goal setting, effective communication, teamwork, leadership, and responsible decision-making.
A distinguishing feature of our programming is the integration of Restorative Practices. Youth are taught constructive conflict resolution, accountability, empathy, and relationship-building skills. This approach strengthens peer connections, reduces behavioral challenges, and promotes a safe, inclusive environment where every participant feels valued and respected.
Donna Street Community Center will implement its after-school programming through a structured, consistent weekly schedule designed to maximize academic support, enrichment, and mentoring opportunities. Programs will be offered on Tuesdays from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Thursdays from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and Saturdays from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, ensuring students have access to support during critical out-of-school hours when supervision and academic reinforcement are most needed.
A minimum of four qualified tutors/educators will be present during all program hours to provide individualized instruction, small-group tutoring, and enrichment facilitation. This staffing model ensures a low student-to-instructor ratio, allowing for personalized academic intervention in literacy, math, science, and financial literacy, while also supporting homework completion and skill-building activities.
